Street Worth Ford Escort
At a glance it does look like a Ford Cosworth but this ride is actually a
1996 Ford Escort owned by Phillip Benito president of street stylez car
club of Miami Florida. This ride has been on the scene for a while and
Phillip has taken it a long way from its early days. It was at the Indy
races in Homestead Florida recently that we got a chance to get a closer
look at this ride, it was then that we started to wonder why we never
featured it before and decided to set up a shoot. The back roads of
Miramar Parkway in Florida with the backdrop of trees and construction
signs was the perfect spot for the shoot. Our only problem with this spot
was since the last time we were there the area had developed with a road
cutting through connecting two major roads. The only way to get the shot
we wanted was to park the car in the middle of the road, so that's exactly
what we did. At that time of the morning the road wasn’t that busy so we
just directed the little traffic that passed around.
This ride is cross bread with about five different make vehicles. Phil
swapped the stock front bumper for a R33 Honda accord bumper, the honda
civic black widow side skirts are backed up by a rear lip of the same
make. The front lights were stolen from a BMW E36 and the rear lights
from a Toyota Corolla. The body was widened about 3 inches using custom
fender flares which helps give the ride a more aggressive look as if the
front mount intercooler wasn’t aggressive enough.
Phil shaved as much of the stock items off the ride as he could. He shaved
the door handles, molding, rear bumper, antennas, front grill and all the
emblems. The carbon fiber hood was partially tinted green and clear coated
so it blends in with the rest of the two tone paint scheme of metallic
green and metallic charcoal. The graphic on the sides literally pulls you
in. Its metallic tears to show you the interior. I don't know what draws
your attention more the graphics or the Cosworth rear spoiler. The spoiler
was imported straight from England and although it looks good its one
heavy addition to the ride.
The interior was completely swapped for a Mazda MX3 interior. The new
interior was then custom upholstered by the boys at Nunez Brothers in
Black and Green leather. The custom fiber glass panels were painted green
to go perfectly with the color scheme. 10” TVs were mounted into both
doors and a 7” TV in the dash. The interior it lit up via 23 tubes of
neon. The ride rolls smoothly over the pavement by means of Raveann 18” x
8.5” wheels. The bolt pattern had to be changed to fit the wheels.
For now the intercooler is just for show and represents phils head start
on his plan to ad some boost. There are quite a few modifications under
the hood such as 2.0 SPI MSD ignition, headers, intake manifold,
Magnacore 8.5 spark plug cables, Accel ignition module, 3.8 TB and wiseco
oversized pistons, 3 angle port and polished head, Match ported intake &
TB, Titanium rings, 30” x 3” intercooler. Phil has done allot of detailed
work to his ride and for that he has won numerous awards and no doubt he
will still continue to.
