In The Shadow
Everyone who does the show scene knows this Eclipse and have seen it over and over again. No matter how many times you see it you just have to stop and take another look, chances are you are going to see something else that you either did not see the previous 100 times or something Gary just added the night before the show. As Gary says, “It has been an ongoing Project” So he is constantly adding or changing things on the ride. As you can see this is not one of those rides with a whole bunch of bolt-ons. every mod that Gary has is done meticulously and only adds to the overall look of the ride. It has been our intention to feature this ride for the longest time now but it was never the right time, until now. Gary purchased this 1997 Eclipse spyder back in 1997 as a everyday rider. He always had intentions of hooking it up but not to the level he has to date. The major work began in 2001 and has been going since. The ride is no longer a daily driver it has been demoted to a trailer queen. Gary still takes it for a spin sometimes and this photo shoot was an excellent opportunity to exercise the blowoff valve. Seeing this ride pull up to you at a traffic light is and experience that will have you still sitting at the light when it changes to green. Gary says peoples astonishment at the car raises a bit when they notice the driver has as much grays as he does but they usually all end up with a thumbs up sign. That was the reaction we got at the Tamiami Airport where we did this shoot. So bad that Airport traffic control had to ask us to leave because the car was disturbing air traffic. I told them not to worry and that the cars insurance of over $110,000 would pay for any damages. I personally think it was the topless model (pic not shown) that was causing the disturbance, but what do I know maybe I am just making up the whole air traffic thing. With a ride with so much work done to it, is it possible to have a favorite modification? Well, for Gary it is, and this would be the sound system. We would need a whole issue by its self to list all of this rides modifications but the ones that stands out the most would firstly be the custom paint and body work done by AutoPro Body Tech. The front is given an aggressive look with the use of the Stillen front bumper along with the VIS extreme carbon fiber hood. VIS also provided the F1 series fender while the carbon fiber splitters are from Buddy Club. The rear of the ride is brought together by use of the VIS Racing Combat rear bumper with the molded in Silvia S15 JDM rear taillight. While driving Gary is held snug in the Sparco Milano seats with harness as he turns through the corners with his sparco wheel. The gauges are a combination of Greddy and AC Auto technic. The ride rolls on Toyo Proxies 235/40/ZR18 with 18” Giovani G Racing Rims. The Audio system is just “Kick Ass” the ride has every thing starting with the Alpine 1005 Head Unit with 6.5” Screen, DVD5200, and PXA-H510 Digital Audio Surround Sound Processor: 8inch Pioneer AVDW8000 Monitor: Ps2 Motorized in Glove Box; Phoenix Gold Amps and Power Core; 3-10” JL Audio Subs; Diamond front and rear Center Speakers; Alpine remote seating area; color video camera in rear taillight assembly; 2.5 TV’s in doors; Two 5’ TV’s in Custom Headliner. All of this is just in the cockpit of the ride to enter in the trunk is like entering another world of automobile electronics. The ride is show all around even the engine with well polished parts and color matching plugs and wires. You may never come across this ride on the road for a quick street race or even see it at the track doing a quarter mile run, but with a 2.0 16 valve DOHC with Greddy 18G Turbo if needed this ride will go. Chances of you seeing this are little to none for the time being you are bound to see it at any major car show especially in South Florida with either Gary or his wife Audrey near by.
